Today, I crossed 12k words in my story, with a target of 120k. One tenth of the way.
I hear about professionals finishing books in a month or less, mere weeks, in some cases. Heck, people talk about 10k+ days. Yeah, that’s not me. Not yet. Though I suspect those same professionals took a lot longer on their first novels before they got their processes down – and before they could do this full time.
So, this is what 100 days looks like for AuthorDad. Of course, that time included a lot of pre-writing and planning, plus far too many days of having to focus on coaching and other business tasks where no writing got done.
I suspect the next tenth of my first draft will not take another 100 days. Even including all of the revision, production, and launch, etc., ahead of me, 100 days should be significantly more than a tenth of the way through the project as a whole!
My goal for the next 100 days: Finish the rough draft. We’ll see how I’ve done when we get to day 200.
