Today, I continued working on my list of scenes, mostly focusing on the conclusion scene and the action around that point.
My plan is to set up a few tent pole/turning point scenes throughout the book based on the progress required to reach that conclusion, so I have to get clear on that, first, to know where my characters are going to end up.
So far, I am excited about each of the scenes I have written down. Some are battles, some are reveals, but all are parts of the story that I’m looking forward to. That was one of the takeaways from 2k to 10k: That I should be excited to write each scene. If I’m not, I need to rethink the scene until I can find something about it to excite me and make it something that I look forward to writing.
I did also work on a few scenes near the inciting incident, in particular introducing another major character. His introduction was vastly different from how I’d imagined it in the first version of this book. This new introduction changes who he is and also sets up some conflict between him and my hero, which should be fun to write. I want to give them a sort of light-hearted enemies to allies relationship throughout the book, with some fun banter, which should keep it fun to write.
Right now, I only have the skeleton of the idea of this character, with a ton of details to still be completed, but I plan to flesh out the characters as I go along, charting their growth with the story.
