Now that I have a few major plot points, I am trying to fill in the intervening scenes. As I think of each one, I am trying to picture what might happen and make sure that each scene is worth telling, necessary to the story, and exciting.
But I realized at the end of today’s session that I have a problem with my ally character being too helpful to the heroine without my really knowing why, yet. He does get a motivation to help her out later, but I haven’t gotten to that point, yet, so right now, all I have him going on is chivalry, which is kind of weak. I need to go back and make sure that he has a logical motivation that will get me through to the larger motivation to come.
Part of my struggle now is also trying to make sure that I understand the sequence of events and what happens between scenes, but not telling that story unless there is a reason to do so.
It’s slow going, thanks in part to my broken confidence from the last time around, but I do feel like I’m making progress.
