Today I returned to the map of my kingdom and the thorny problem of it not lining up with my storyline, especially in the final “chase” portion. I was struggling to make the geography make sense for the scenes I had sketched, particularly with a battle in a ravine followed by a running chase.
Ultimately, I think am going to have to rethink those scenes, or at least the timing of them. I can have the ravine battle, but it isn’t going to be nearly as close to my characters’ “finish line” as I had intended, so the chase is going to have to go down differently – more of a game of hide and seek and growing exhaustion. I’ll get back to that once I finish these maps.
With the kingdom sketched out, not I need to draw the two major cities that my heroes visit. I should not need to get much more detailed than that, though I might need an outline of the castle grounds where the early action takes place, just for my own reference.
