My last post on the Book 1 Project was nearly two months ago to the day. Since then, I’ve been working to get my non-fiction book finished and released. Now that I finally have that accomplished, it is time to start working fiction back into my schedule. My first step is to catch up on the book!
I knew I would be going back to the fiction this morning, and I have been debating with myself whether I should continue from where I left off or blow it up and start again. But after re-reading the first three scenes today, I think I’m going to continue from where I stopped last time. The writing itself needs a lot of help and revision, but I don’t think the story is bad. I can work with this.
I’m going to try to avoid going back to rewrite it at this point, too. I’ll write forward, finish the first draft, and then go back to revise. I’ll probably learn much more about writing as well as where I want my characters to go in the meantime.
I’m both excited and nervous to get back into this. Fiction is what I want to do long-term, but because of that, the pressure is also high and I am more terrified of failure than I am with my non-fiction.
But the highest form of failure is doing nothing. At least I can finish something, put it out there, and use that as a springboard to get better.
