Thanks to renewed drive over the past two days, I have been able to churn through the remaining coaching projects and get back to my writing with a vengeance!
I am still working on plotting my hero’s emotional arc with regards to her acceptance of her powers, but thanks to the ideas that have been simmering in the back of my head over the past few days of working on the coaching, I was able to work my way through the tricky middle scenes of her journey and make it nearly through the conclusion.
After I finish this arc, I want to work in shorter arcs for my supporting characters, so that they each have a need that gets fulfilled during the story, one way or another. I think that will help me keep them three-dimensional, rather than fading into cardboard cutouts that exist solely to support my hero.
For the supporting characters, I’m going to stick to the 7-point hero’s journey, rather than going all the way on the 22 points from Anatomy of Story, but I suspect that does not automatically mean that they will go faster. . . In fact, the progress may be deceivingly slow, since there is still a similar amount of story to fill in, even if it results in fewer output words.
