Today, I got back to working on my novel again, and got my ideas fixed for the two target scenes that I need to start writing my first scene: The scene that immediately follows and my hero’s self-realization scene.
Having these two scenes clear in my head give me a future target as I’m writing the opening scene. I know now exactly where my character will be after the opening scene, since I know how she will approach scene two, and I also know where her character arc is taking her at the end of this book.
Ideally, I would also know where I want her to end up at the end of the series, but I’m not sure if that is just me trying to find another way to procrastinate getting words on the page. I think it is important and I set myself up for a real risk if I do not know at least how her character arc will end, including both her personal development and her external role in the world.
I will try to give that some thought today to at least get a rough sketch in mind. Then, I should be ready to start the actual writing.
