Today, I managed to power through the end of scene two, easily exceeding my word count, after going back to reread my book metadata.
That was something I had been forgetting. When I started this project, I had planned to reread the meta description (the back cover) every day before I started writing, as well as my notes on the story premise, theme, and issues. I haven’t been doing that, and probably need to print out those pages so that I don’t keep forgetting in the future.
Today, rereading those sections reminded me what the overall story was supposed to be, as well as the theme, style, and pacing I wanted to pursue. That helped as I returned to the scene in progress. I had a better appreciation for what it needed to accomplish and how, so it was easier to get through the end instead of getting bogged down in the scene for its own sake.
