Of the three scenes so far, this one was the easiest to start writing. Before I started, I made sure to reread the profiles of the three major characters that appear in the scene, as well as my scene card. That helped kick off the action and description for the beginning and also avoided the mistakes I made last time when I tried to dictate the start of a scene away from my notes.
Today, I was working at the keyboard again. I could have made the switch to dictation after the background reading, but given the weather made going outside an impossibility. Another day.
In this scene, I have my first real conflict and uncomfortable situation for my hero, so it’s more fun to write. Even though I’ve only just gotten about 600 words in and introduced the characters – the part that usually feels like pulling teeth – I feel confident that this will go more smoothly.
