Coaching: Poorly Written = Longer Editing

This is a lesson for my books from my ongoing coaching review. I tried to take the positive stance yesterday that I was learning more from this particular review because it was poorly written and forcing me to learn more about the subject matter. But the flip side of that, of course, is that it is taking me a monumental amount of time.

I’m still trying to give the same level of feedback that I would if it was already in good condition and ready to be taken to the next level, in order to make sure that my client feels like my services have provided the value they sought, but it’s really trying to get there.

And this makes the case for self-editing before passing a manuscript on to an editor. If you put someone in the situation I’m in now, not only is it going to take longer (and possibly cost more, if they don’t operate on a per-task cost), that editor isn’t going to want to work with you again. . .
