Coaching: Sometimes You Learn More from Something Written Poorly

But it requires a hell of a lot more effort.

I’m working on a coaching review of a research proposal now and the author is either being extremely vague or, alternatively, is speaking in a language that only an expert in the field can understand. I don’t have enough knowledge of the field in question to know which one. But in order to give my client valuable feedback, I need to find out.

That means that I have to pay even more attention to the content and do a bit of peripheral research to familiarize myself with the field. It’s a lot of extra work as a coach, but on the other hand, one of the reasons I do this is because I love learning new things and editing research proposals exposes me to a wide variety of fields that I would not have thought of before.

And so many of these fields have the potential to become magic systems in future fantasy novels!

(Please understand that I have no intention to write poorly, myself, and would never encourage someone to do so deliberately, I’m just trying to find joy in the tasks in front of me!)

Take part in the journey!
