Non-Fic: Aligning Actions and Goals – Author Dad

Non-Fic: Aligning Actions and Goals

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about what my goals are in life and the kind of life I want for myself, and one of the things that I keep coming back to is that I want to make an independent income from my creative endeavors. But if I want any hope of doing that as an author, I need to put my butt where my mouth is: In my writing chair in front of my computer. There’s no other way to do this but to have a long back list.

Today was a non-fiction day, and I managed to push myself through one finished section and the temptation to stop to keep going and get a little more progress done. It’s been hard to keep up the motivation on this one since I had to go back and cut a lot of what I’d written due to poor organization, but I’m going to try to push myself to keep going. Especially over the remaining 6 days of my New Year’s vacation.

Another thing I have been thinking about is that if I really want this to be a career and if this is really the thing I want to make an independent income from, then I had also better enjoy it! That means I need to figure out a way to write without stressing about the final product – both for my non-fiction and fiction writing. That’s going to be another of my focuses as I keep up the writing progress!
