In today’s writing session, I generated about 700 new words about a specific search technique, but those words replaced over 3,000 is my original messy and repetitive draft. I’m calling that a win! I got across everything that I think the reader needs to know about the topic without being confusing or verbose. The point of this book is to explain the process as succinctly as possible, so that my readers can get on with their own search.
With those words, too, I have now finished a significant step in my how-to explanation. I have included the “why”, the process, and the specific methods and resources in one section, instead of trying to explain each one separately, which resulted in all of the repetition and confusion the first time around. This is feeling much better.
I do not often go back to edit in the middle of writing, but in this case, I think it was the right choice and I’m happy with the direction the book is headed.
It may still be difficulty to publish it in time for this year’s scholarship application process, but I will certainly push toward that goal.
