Non-Fic: Much easier than fiction when I’m not at 100%

Over the past couple of days, I haven’t been feeling well, which has made writing particularly challenging. But after going through one day of fiction in this state and one day of non-fiction, I can say without a doubt that the latter is much easier to tackle. My writing is still significantly slower and more challenging than when I am feeling well, but since I do not have to create worlds and characters out of nothing, it is a comparatively easier process.

I heard that Robert McKee claims that writing fiction is more challenging than brain surgery, and I can understand where he is coming from. It is the creation that is challenging. (Though you get more do-overs in writing, so the pressure and stress is a lot lower.) At this point in my non-fiction work, I am simply trying to turn my bullet point notes into a clear and engaging set of instructions, so the mental tax is much lower.

I made it into the final significant section of the final chapter today, so that was motivational despite the challenges of my condition. I should be able to wrap this up in another day or two!
