I have limited time each day to work on my books and anything else that comes up before work, and I need to make better use of it.
Today, I should have been focused on the final example I want to introduce for the current section of my non-fiction book, but instead, I spent much of the morning responding to an inquiry about my coaching services – and not just responding, I spent this time actively trying to convince the person not to use my services. In terms of prioritizing a writing business, this does not make a whole lot of sense.
On the one hand, I have pride in my non-fiction brand (and I will admit that I am a people pleaser), so I do not want anyone to have a bad experience with it. That means that I can’t leave a request like this unanswered and I also can’t in good conscience take on a client whose question lies outside my area of expertise without first warning them about my limitations.
So, I got that done, eventually, but it left me with only a few minutes to start researching the aforementioned example. Fortunately, so far the research is going quite well and this is a much simpler example that the one that held me up a few days ago. If I can focus next time, I should be able to churn through it quite quickly!
But there really is nothing like limited time to make me conscious of how I am misspending it.
