Today, I put the finishing touches on the first draft of Chapter One of my non-fiction book. Although I haven’t been numbering the days on this particular project, maybe I should go back and do that. I’m curious about how it compares to the glacial speed of getting out my first fiction novel.
Of course, that’s not exactly fair. I already had the research done for this book years ago and it’s my fourth non-fiction book, including the third in a series. (That sounds great on paper, but it’s extremely niche and each book really only has a double-digit sales potential per year. Otherwise, I’d be a lot more focused on these!)
Today, I wrote the last meaty section of the chapter as well as a short round-up.
Chapter one was largely an introduction and overview, so I did not have as much research to support it or concrete points that I needed to make. Once I get in to chapter two, I’ll be going into more practical advice and it will be interesting to see whether that leads to an increase or decrease in my output speed.
