Yesterday, I talked about how I’m frustrated with how my story is going and how the writing is not reflecting what I hoped it would be or what I would want to read. I’m having trouble thinking about how to fix this while also being in the middle of writing it and feeling pressure to advance the story – the story that already needs a complete rewrite of everything so far – so I’m going to step away from it for a bit.
Fortunately, I have my non-fiction to fall back on. I have two books out in my scholarship series and had originally planned on seven. They took a back seat to my fiction writing after the last one came out a year and a half ago, and I thought I’d do a book in each type in order. But since then, I’ve started and failed at two different fiction projects. So, rather than starting yet another one right away, I’m going to go work on that next non-fiction book for a bit.
I know there really isn’t much of a market for these books – writing books targeted at scholarship applicants means that I am targeting a demographic that typically does not have excess money to spend – but non-fiction is a lot easier, and I plan to use the headspace that I clear up to do some analysis of the kind of fiction I enjoy reading to compare to my own writing.
I’ll continue this blog, but for now, the Book One Project is on hiatus.
