I’m putting aside the question about whether or not non-fiction is giving up, for now. The last thing I need at this point is more self-doubt, right? Besides, as long as I enjoy the writing process (or perhaps, I enjoy the accomplishing process), then that’s what matters for now. This journey is supposed to be something that I enjoy doing.
Besides, I can switch back whenever I want. The best timing, though, would be after I finish converting my notes into a complete outline, with each of the notes assigned by chapters. I’m not going to think about switching back to fiction until I have at least that process complete.
I have the sketch of my outline together now and am starting to assign the notes from my previous research to each section and imagine how the different chapters will come together. So far, this is a relatively non-taxing and refreshing process, which is what I needed.
I am also going to start analyzing some of the fantasy books I have read and enjoyed lately to examine the writing style, story, pacing, and scene structure. Here’s hoping that I can actually succeed at that without getting sucked into the story and reading it for enjoyment (again).
