After playing with several options, I landed on a tagline that I like for the first book in my series. I think it captures the character, situation, and intrigue while also giving her positive action to pursue.
With that in hand, my book package is almost done, but when I compare the tagline to the cover art that I had been looking it, it doesn’t really fit, so I went back to that search again today.
I have an idea of what I want in terms of overall composition, but just can’t find anything with the right elements among the premades I have been looking it. The dominant pattern for my genre seems to be the hero in the foreground, often obscured in some way, but with a hint of their power (weapons, magic, or uniform) while the background hints at the setting. I have found a few good models, but none with an appropriate background yet. So, when I choose the art for my book package (which is ultimately only for me and my reference while writing), I think I need one image of each.
Once I get that sorted, my last step will be a single paragraph to describe the story, then I will be ready to go back to the plot and figuring out how to make the story compelling and exciting, rather than in my character’s head, like last time.
