Between an extra session yesterday evening and a productive morning today, I pushed my word count for the non-fiction book over the halfway point of 20,000 words. Some of those words are notes that I’m going to overwrite as I continue to move forward, but it’s still a great number to see on the Scrivener progress bar.
I was particularly happy about last night’s session, since it came in a situation where I have struggled to be productive. After a morning of working on my fiction project, I stopped at lunch to talk to my family – just two more days before my quarantine is over and I can be back with them again! – and go buy some food. By the time I’d finished eating, nearly three hours had passed and the enthusiasm I’d felt in the morning had faded away into a bit of a food coma. I ended up taking an extended break and playing a video game.
But after dinner and another conversation with the family, I was able to kick myself back into gear to get in that first thousand-word session from the title. And not only was it a rare post-9pm session, it was also a tricky section to write. Getting that done before bed was a great feeling.
I don’t often have the chance to write at night when I’m home, but if I can train myself to do it when I do have the chance, that would be a great step toward being more professional about this writing gig!
