B1P 224: Seeking Flow – Author Dad

B1P 224: Seeking Flow

Today was my last morning of writing from my quarantine room – hopefully for the foreseeable future. I am so excited to get out of here and back to my home and usual routine – not to mention my usual writing desk. (That said, I’m taking tomorrow off to focus on being with my family!)

In today’s scene, I introduced the king and my hero’s dead mother. I had my “mirror scene” where the hero describes herself, but in this case, she and the king were looking at a portrait of her mother that looks just like her. While this might sound like a groaner of a scene, that painting and what it does – and doesn’t – show is an important plot point in the final scene of the book, so hopefully the reader will forgive me.

I didn’t get anywhere near finished with the scene, but so far, it feels like it’s flowing well. I’m getting a little better at not getting in my own way and just trying to let the story come out. The word counts don’t reflect that yet, but I’m feeling better about it and the writing is more enjoyable, so that’s the important part!

Take part in the journey!
