I’m at least settling into the writing in terms of enjoying and being able to move forward. It no longer feels like pulling teeth. It’s still slow going and I’m barely hitting my word counts, though.
I think part of the reason is that I have specific points that I want each scene to hit, but I’m not sure how to efficiently guide it in that direction. When I went through the scenes in my head during the planning phase, I had a general idea, but now that I’m writing it, I am thinking about how to show each character’s individual personality in their speech and movements and still try to have the scene develop naturally to cover the topics that I want. I think that’s just a matter of experience, though, so I look forward to getting better at it as I go!
This morning, I am in the process of introducing two new characters, so there is a lot of pesky description to get through at the head of the scene, but it’s about time to get the conversation (argument) between them going in earnest. Next time.
