This morning, I wrapped up that scene from the previous session and started in on the next one – only to double-back and rewrite the order of action in part of it. I’ve left myself a little bit of a mess for the next session, with that rewrite only partially finished. Sorry future me.
I am still struggling with confidence about whether or not this is going to be something that people will enjoy reading. But I guess that’s the wrong question. The right thing to ask would be, “Is this something that I would enjoy reading?” After all, I am writing this with myself in mind as a target audience and trying to write the kind of story that I would enjoy. I shouldn’t be worried about general reception, especially not if most of those people aren’t in my target audience group.
And I do enjoy a heavy dose of political intrigue. I have been going light on it, so far, because I want to avoid info dumping and long passages that might take the reader out of the story, but that is part of my story and I want the reader to enjoy it. So, I should write the story I want to tell and figure out how to make that bit as exciting and engaging as the action parts of the book.
Today was mostly action, and I didn’t quite get to the point of introducing that last character that I’m am excited about, but he should be coming, soon.
