Today, I finished the coaching review that had been holding me up for the past few days and got started back into dictating character development work on my jester character, concluding her profile.
Now that I’ve started this daily report, I find myself more motivated to get through my coaching projects more quickly and not slack off. Before, I would let myself procrastinate. But now that I have to report here honestly what I have and haven’t done each day, I push through.
It’s actually similar to what happens to me when I’m teleworking. The pressure to have to report what I did to my boss at the end of the day keeps me on task more than I am at my desk where everyone can see that I am at work, and therefore must be working.
I wrapped up the review today at what should have been the end of my writing time yesterday, but I had crossing guard duty for my daughter’s elementary school at an intersection within walking distance, so I dictated during the 10-minute round-trip to that task. (I wasn’t going to dictate while actually being the crossing guard. Don’t want the kids thinking I’m totally crazy!).
In those few minutes, I finished dictating my jester character’s likes and dislikes, and also came up with her name, finally. The only problem is that I did not have time afterward to clean up the transcription file, so I still have some proofreading left ahead of me, and not I’m going to have to tackle it a day later, instead of immediately after the fact.
