Today, I finally caught up on my pending transcription editing, plus I got the last few bits of my final character interview complete.
In the process, I think I’ve become a bit sympathetic to the primary antagonist for this first book. She’s a pretty complex character in her own right and will be a relentless enemy, but for good reason. I know I can’t put too much emphasis on her – unless I want to flip the entire story on its head, which I don’t – but her appearances will be interesting to write.
Today, I finished writing her background, her memories, likes and dislikes. I’m never quite sure about that last one, since I don”t know how it will relate to the story, but I guess the likes and dislikes, even if not directly related, will help me figure out how she will react in situations that I haven’t yet fully mapped out.
And that’s the next stage: Plot. I have to give some thought to how I am going to approach my plotting for this story. I have tried Truby’s model from The Anatomy of Story as well as the 40-Sentence Model from Sterling and Stone in the past. The Bestseller Course has a more simplistic version, too. But I don’t think I’ve used any of them well. I’m going to go back over the different models again, as well as re-reading my premise and hero profile, then try to figure out how I’m going to start this process this time around.
