A while back I was interviewed for a podcast based on my work on my non-fiction blog and that post came out yesterday. As a result, I have been messing around with proofing the podcast video yesterday and tinkering with that website today.
Yesterday, I missed writing completely – though I did get to review all of the notes I needed for my current scene, which was a considerable amount. Today, I nearly missed it too. By the time I was done fiddling with my website, it was 6:40, nearly the end of my writing time, since the kids are usually up at 7 ish.
But today, I didn’t allow myself to give in. I put on my writing soundtrack on spotify and hit the keyboard with a vengeance, pounding out my 500 words before 7am hit – and of course, then the kids decided to sleep in anyway.
It felt good to get those words in and feel productive again. I’m happy I fought off the temptation to just throw in the towel with so little time remaining.
I got started with the opening description for my scene, setting the tone and also giving my character’s view on the castle two where it was set. Looking back at my previous scenes, I really don’t think I’ve given the setting enough attention to transport the reader into the world, so that’s something I want to work on. No purple prose, but at least enough for the reader to feel like they’re there.
