After a few stagnant days, I got back to copying the transcriptions from my broken computer days into Scrivener. I’m editing a little as I go, which isn’t the most productive thing to do, but at least I got nearly 1500 words copied in today from two days’ worth of dictation. 1500 words from three days worth of work is nearly my target pace, so that’s not too bad.
I’m still doubting my story and my scenes, and copying these words in isn’t helping. If I think about the purpose of the scenes, I can see that I’m rambling here and that there is a lot of extraneous action that really doesn’t need to be present for the story. Many many cuts to come in the future.
But at the same time, I can’t let the failures of the past hold me back. I’ve said this before, but all I can do is to finish getting these words in and then work on writing better, more concise and focused scenes, as I move forward. Once I get the hang of it, I can go back and edit the beginning again.
