Today’s writing (more copying in text from the broken computer days) completed the scene where the reader learns about the threat to the Hero from the Guide’s perspective. But the Guide can’t get to the Hero yet, and doesn’t realize just how much danger she’s in.
In the next scene, the reader knows what kind of danger the Hero is in, but she does not. Although I think my execution of that scene was rather terrible, if I can redo it, then it should make for great suspense.
Speaking of redoing scenes, I decided on my new craft book for my daily reading ritual. I picked up The Scene Book: A Primer for Fiction Writersby Sandra Scofield. I based the purchase on reviewer comments indicating this book covers what I want to learn about constructing better scenes, so I’ll share how it goes in future posts. My last craft book, Story Engineering talked about what scenes are supposed to do, but not so much about how to do it, so I’m hoping this will be the next step.
