Once again today, most of my time went to the coaching project. This particular client has a habit of turning around my comments in under 24 hours and getting back to me with new questions, so I’m never quite done. In most cases, my coaching services are limited to two review passes, but since this client is also a Patreon supporter, I’m giving him more flexibility, to my own detriment. It’s making me reconsider whether I want to continue the Patreon for my non-fiction site, since it creates this sense of obligation.
However, at least today I managed to get off my replies to him with about 10 minutes left in my morning time, just enough to tuck in a 100-word description of the market that my hero and her best friend have just entered. I’m getting close to wrapping up this scene, but the final words here need to bring out the conflict and show my character’s weakness, so I need to be careful as I wind to a finish.
I’m happy that I was able to make use of those few minutes. In the past, I might have called it a day after the coaching session, figuring that I’d done my time and didn’t have time to start something new, but not this time. Part of it is the nagging suspicion that I might get sucked back into coaching tomorrow and not be able to count on time then. But another part of it is the strong desire to push through and finish this first draft, especially after my reflection on Day 100.
