Yesterday, after writing my daily update, I got some extra time and went back to finish the scene then write the outline for my next one, thinking that I would get right into the writing this morning.
But I’d forgotten about my process sometime before starting my last set of scenes. My goal had been to have the scene card done not only for the scene I was writing, but also for the next scene that involved the same set of characters before I start writing the scene. That way I can make sure that it ends with the right set-up for what comes next.
The problem with that is that the scene I’m set two write next ends with the Inciting Incident. That moment that changes everything for all of my heroes. The nature of that incident means that the characters who are together in this scene are going to split into groups, and I plan to crosscut the next scenes, using three different POVs, and that means three scene-cards to write so that I know how each character should end up.
This morning, I finished one of those three cards, and am partway through the next two, but they’re going to need a little more work before I can get down to the actual writing.
