I finally reached the inciting incident of my story. Just as my hero has come to a conclusion about how she’s going to face down the problems she’s been facing so far in the first scenes, everything blows up in her face.
Literally.
I’m not particularly happy with the scene leading up to the incident. I think I mentioned before that it was a little to introspective and slow (though I did manage to add a little bit of action before the explosion). The description of the incident itself was also a little clunky and will call for revision later, but at least I have the story down and that part makes sense.
Now it’s time for a mad scramble of reaction as the hero and other characters respond to what’s happened.
But while this is the Inciting Incident, the meaning behind it, and the call to action are still set to unfold among the next few sentences. So, we’re still building toward that threshold and answering the call.
