I’m still committed to using my computer-less time to work on my dictation, but I draw the line at walking in the rain.
This morning, I woke up to a deluge that had continued from last night. I’m not about to go walking in that weather, and there isn’t particularly any place in the house that I can dictate without risking the noise carrying to the bedroom to wake the kids, so I sat down with my bluetooth keyboard and my phone to get a few words in.
I got through a scene, which was a good target for the time. If I can handle a full scene in each typing or dictating session, that will make it so that I don’t have to pick up in the middle of where I was before. (Of course, that’s a lot easier with typing than dictation).
In this scene, my hero and best friend character are sneakily investigating the blast that was at the heart of the inciting incident, and my hero comes upon a horrible realization. Still, I’m trying to get less in my characters’ heads and bogged down with too much emotion and reflection that’s going to kill the pacing. It’s a tricky balance to find the right amount, though. I guess that’s a matter of finding my voice, and that won’t happen quite yet.
