B1P Day 12: Best Friend Conflicts, Personality, Description

Today, I continued working on my best friend character from yesterday. Building on his emotional wound, it was fairly easy to create his internal and external conflicts as well as his personality, talents and flaws. The only challenge I faced with this character is that I like him quite a bit and have to avoid making him too good in certain areas. Like my hero, he needs to be early in his development stage and needs an opportunity to grow as the story goes along.

His physical description bogged me down a little bit. I got sidetracked into doing some research on clothing to see what would be appropriate for someone in his station and lost some time there. But I’ve gotten past the physical description for now and am moving on into his personality, which is one of the last few “profile” items on my list before I launch into the character interview, which should be tomorrow if all goes well.

The obstacle that might hold me up is that I have been getting some nibbles of interest for my coaching services related to my non-fiction blog. Even though I see this fiction as being the more realistic long-term solution, for now, that coaching service pays my expenses for my writing habit, including web services, software, equipment, and education, so I have to keep it up!

Take part in the journey!
