B1P Day 134: Not as Simple as Cut and Paste – Author Dad

B1P Day 134: Not as Simple as Cut and Paste

Today, I spent nearly 45 minutes pasting in under 1000 words from my computer-less writing time into Scrivener. I got trapped into editing as I went, even though I know that’s a waste. This was typed text – I had written it on my phone, so it wasn’t like it was dictation that needed revision and correction. I just got trapped into doing something that should come much later – after a content edit to determine if this scene really needed to exist. Stupid mistake.

The next set of words that I have to integrate is dictation, so I will have to put a little more work into that, but I need to keep my tasks straight. I should not be editing now. I should be getting this in so that I can move forward with the story. But it’s so hard to resist the temptation.

Besides writing, I’ve also reached the end of the craft book I was reading, Larry Brooks’ Story Engineering. So, now I need to choose what to read next. I want more on writing effective scenes, so that’s what I’ll be searching for, I think.

Take part in the journey!
