B1P Day 139: Caught Up! – Author Dad

B1P Day 139: Caught Up!

This morning, I finished importing all of the words from my broken computer days and have caught up to the point where I can start writing new scenes again. I got the last 2600 words imported today, and did so without reading it as I went, which was important because the scene in question is an utter disaster and needs a ton of work in edits, but not now. It’s over 5000 words, since I started rambling and being overly descriptive in the middle, but right now, I’m not confident that I have the skill to fix it. I need to learn to write better scenes as I move forward with the book, then I can go back and repair the broken ones.

My cast is nearly together, only the guide character needs to rejoin the other three to form the party of adventurers. The scene today ended with the three other characters – my hero, best friend, and jester – fleeing the danger introduced in the cut scene. Next, they have to seek safety in an unlikely place then receive the information that will force the hero’s decision (the first plot point). That should come within the next scene or two.

As I am looking at a new scene card from my outline for the first time in a long time, I think I have been overplanning my scenes and that is probably why they ramble so long. I need to find a simpler planning method that helps to keep me on track with what the scene needs to accomplish while also keeping it from bubbling over.

Take part in the journey!
