B1P Day 160: Two Sessions in a Day

Yesterday, I finally succeeded in not only returning to my writing for a second time in a day, but having a longer, better session the second time around.

Of course, it helped that in the meantime, I didn’t have to do anything stressful or mentally taxing, so I was still fresh. It was a day off on a weekday, the kids were at school, and all I’d done in the meantime was bake cookies and spend time with my wife. When she took the kids to an after-school Halloween Party at a friend’s house, it was my time.

I turned it into over 1000 words, completing most of a scene that, in a stark departure from the last conversation-heavy First Plot Point, was all about action. I think there might have been only five words spoken the whole time, though there was a decent amount going on in the character’s head.

I finished that scene this morning and it felt great to get a full scene done from outline to completion in only two days!

Still, even with the extra time yesterday, I couldn’t spend all of it writing. I felt myself slowing as I went and stopped when my brain hit a mental wall trying to figure out how to take it to the end. Returning to it fresh this morning helped me power through. So, when I do have time to do more writing, I need to make sure I give myself a schedule with balance between writing and breaks. Time away helps me return with fresh energy.

Take part in the journey!
