I have a few ideas for cover images for my book now, so I went back to review the next ideal step in creating my book package: Taglines.
Last time around, so much of my planning and writing process was wrong, and my tagline was no exception. It was focused on what was happening to the hero. Like several other steps I’ve described so far, my hero did not have sufficient positive action and desire.
Now that I have looked at the title and cover image again and changed bother, it’s time to address that tagline, too. In this revision, I have shifted both the title and cover to be more positive and promising of adventure, rather than the original dark and doom-filled-ish first time around. The tagline should match.
I haven’t started trying to write it yet, just reviewing what a tagline ought to be. My next step will be going back to those comp titles I had identified to see what they did with taglines and how they addressed conflict, emotion, and intrigue so that I know what the expectations are within my genre. Then I’ll try my hand and taglines of my own.
