B1P Day 200: Character Sheets and Rescued Time – Author Dad

B1P Day 200: Character Sheets and Rescued Time

In my last post, I thought I was nearly ready to start writing again, but then I realized I had not yet filled in practically any of the details about my characters or the settings they would be in. I kind of need to know that information (plus a few other things, like a scene timeline and map) before I actually get into the writing of the story.

I swear I’m not procrastinating. I think. I’m just trying to work out my process as I go.

The most significant part of “today’s” writing was that I succeeded in starting it yesterday. I had an hour in the early afternoon and I used it to brew myself another cup of coffee and hit the computer for an extra hour of writing, despite the kids being home and half the day already being gone. What’s more, it was even a productive hour, resulting in two character sheets at a total of 1500 words.

For me, that’s significant. I almost never succeed in writing later in the day and if I do, it’s only because I hadn’t gotten my words in on time, so it’s a grind and miserable. This time, it felt good, and I proved to myself that I can write later in the day if I put my mind to it.

I finished filling in a third character sheet this morning, rounding out my three main protagonists. I have one secondary protagonist to go, then my pair of villains, and finally a couple of other major figures in the world that I need to cover, though that last group needs much less detail.

Take part in the journey!
