The first time I attempted to write this story, and in my previous novelette, my scenes always seemed to run long. I was inside my characters’ heads too much, or conversations got out of hand and I had a hard time forcing them back to the point. But this time, it seems like all of my scenes are coming in surprisingly short. To the point that I’m nearly at the 10k word mark as well as the end of my sixth scene. That is highly unusual for me, and I’m not sure yet if it’s a good thing or not.
At least I am sticking to the point in my scenes so far, and I hope it means that the pacing will be decent. But for now, I guess that I shouldn’t worry too much about it. If something is missing – more dialog? more description? more introspection? – I can add that in the edits if I have to. For now, I just need to keep pushing through. Keep the story going.
