Today, I finally wrapped up that coaching project, at least for now, and in the time I had remaining, I got back to editing my last transcription sessions and filling in the details on two of my opponents, the last two major characters in my web.
I still have one more transcription session to edit and insert into my last opponent, the assassin/spymaster character who will play the most prevalent role in this story, at least as I see it now. Then there are a few sections of her character profile that I have yet to fill in, but once I complete those, probably less than a day’s work, it will be time to move on to the next step of my writing process: The plot.
In the past, I’ve had a habit of starting out my plot with loose beats, but getting more and more detailed as I go on. Since I’ve plotted linearly up to this point, that has resulted in the paradoxical situation where the start of the book (at which point there is the least possibility of divergence from my original idea) I have the least amount of detail, whereas at the end, I have the most detail in place, but there is also the highest chance that, in the meantime, my story will have diverged from the outline, making that detail irrelevant. I have to try to quash that tendency this time.
I want to try to stick to loose beats this time, and then fill in the details as I get to them in the writing process, but we will see how that goes and how well I can hold myself to it!
First, I have to finish that last character profile.
