I’m trying to convince myself to treat my first draft like a first draft. So far, the early going has been plagued by second-guessing and worries – but it’s mostly worries about dialogue and description, which is a good thing. That’s the kind of stuff I can easily handle in rewrites, assuming the story is there.
For now, the only thing I really should be worrying about is getting that story out onto the page to get that rough clay. As long as I can get right, the details will come later.
Today, I reminded myself of that before I started writing, and as a consequence (perhaps), I crossed 1000 words for the second straight day -much faster than the day before – and finished my third scene.
Tomorrow, I’ll start in on the fourth scene. This is the first one that I’m considering doing from a separate point of view. It’s probably not a good thing that I’m all the way up to the scene and still haven’t figured out whose perspective I’m going to tell it from, but I’ll be mulling that over for the rest of the day.
