B1P Day 85: The Words are There – Author Dad

B1P Day 85: The Words are There

Today, again, I wasn’t feeling much like writing – or doing anything else really – but I pushed myself to get started and, once I did, the words started flowing.

This morning, I go back to work after a two four-day weekends in a row, to face a busy week with a major event that is going to require quite a bit of prep work and probably a late day or two. But sitting here and dreading it isn’t going to do me any good, so I convinced myself to keep my fingers on the keyboard.

As a result, I got down over 900 words on the current scene. I’m telling it from the perspective of the best friend, who doesn’t necessarily have a crush on my hero, but still wants to make her happy on her birthday, so I am trying to describe his nervousness, while not getting too bogged down in melodrama or anything like that. At the same time, the scene takes them across the capital city and its markets, so there’s a lot of description and movement spliced in with their dialogue. If nothing else, so far it feels like I have a much better balance between action, dialogue, and description in this scene than the previous three.

But it’s moving slowly for all of that. I’m nearly to 1500 words and the scene is still in early stages for what I need to do. That’s something to face in editing, though. For now, I just need to get through it.

Take part in the journey!
