After clearing up that coaching project yesterday, I had this morning to focus only on my story, and fortunately, there were no early wake-ups to throw off my schedule, so I got in over 700 words.
Today, I tried to concentrate on getting out of my own way and letting the story unfold. I know what I need to accomplish by the end of the scene, but I’m trying to let the story lead there naturally, rather than forcing it. At the moment, my characters are distracted from their task, and spent all of this morning that way, but they are about to get moving again. I’ve wrapped up the aside and gotten them just to the point of setting off again. I might throw in a little break so that I don’t have to follow them every step of the way as they make their way to the next significant interaction, but for now, I’m allowing myself time for a little more description about the characters, their status quo, and the city that they live in.
All of it is setting the stage for what comes next: The Inciting Incident that is going to throw this entire world out of order.
