Coaching: The Season Starts? – Author Dad

Coaching: The Season Starts?

This morning, I had my second coaching/review request for the year, which is about consistent with two years ago, the last time this scholarship operated on the normal schedule. If the application process operates as normal again this year, I can anticipate that the next two to three months will be busy with those requests. That’s great to build up my reserves, but at the same time, it is going to take me away from my writing process, so I’m really going to need to find a way to motivate myself to make incremental progress on each of my projects whenever I have the opportunity.

I’ve been thinking about flagging motivation, anyway, especially as it relates to my fiction project. With that book still in the early stages of the first draft and progress feeling rather slow, I want to do something to make it more motivational for myself. I like ticking off boxes or other physical indications of accomplishment – particularly countdowns to a concrete goal, so something like ticking off every 5000 words written or every scene complete could help.

Coaching projects could be added to that list, too. That way, they will seem like goals, instead of interruptions.

The trick – just like everything else – is going to be forcing myself to take the time to implement this system!

Take part in the journey!
