I’m still working on the first step of formatting my manuscript, using Microsoft Office Online. Unfortunately, since I do not have the desktop app for word, most of my formatting styles did not get applied in the output from Scrivener. Apparently, some of Scrivener’s formatting capabilities require Word to be installed so the two programs can interact.
So, now I am going through and reapplying styles to the various headers in the book, as well as coloring the links and removing indents before them. I also had a few styles that I had written in HTML in the manuscript, since I used to format my books using an HTML editor and Calibre, so those all had to be converted.
It’s a tedious process, but I’m put to page 92 of 168 in the word file, and it isn’t taking too long. It would be going even better if Word Online wasn’t so buggy. The “Styles” button is right next to the “Find” button in the toolbar (there is no keyboard shortcut that I have been able to find), and every time I accidentally click “Find”, it crashes. That’s only happened about a dozen times today.
Hopefully it will only take me one more day of this formatting step and then I’ll be ready to move the file into the Reedsy editor for the final formatting. That’s going to be a longer process, since I’m going to have to go through and reintroduce all of the internal links that got lost in the Scrivener output, though. Fun times ahead.
