I have an alternating morning exercise routine that involves running and a short cycle of push-ups, sit-ups, etc. on alternate days, but the running days always take a little longer. Sometimes, I can’t alternate (for example, I do not run outside in a downpour), so my schedule gets switched. Recently, that has meant that my running days are on fiction days and my short routine days line up with non-fiction.
Today, in addition to being a running day, I also have to go into work 30 minutes early for a teleconference with a partner university in Peru, so my time is really cramped. I’m not willing to let that be my fiction day, so I decided to do two non-fiction days in a row. This way, my fiction writing will fall on days when I have a little more time, which is how it should be, since that is more important.
Now, if only I could get into the flow with that fiction writing the way I used to be able to do and make the most of that time!
I have kept up my podcast diet for a few days, though I miss my virtual mentors. It hasn’t yet freed me from the pressure that I put on myself, but it’s still early days!
